February 2018 Dinner Meeting - "Agility Simplified: Project Manager's 'Need to Know' Topics"

NOTE:

Agility Simplified: Project Manager's "Need to Know" Topics (2 PDU's)

Presented by Lisa Goebel

What's this agile stuff all about and why should you care?  Agile is not a software development methodology - it's a way of thinking and behaving. We'll dive into the Agile Manifesto and its associated principles.  We'll also have an activity that puts these in action.

What's Scrum?  How does it work and what's the role of a Project Manager?  We'll walk thru the people, process and artifacts of Scrum and discuss how Project Manager's contribute to an agile team's success.  We'll also discuss the differences between the roles of a Project Manager and Scrum Master.

What are these story points all about?  How are they are used to forecast and plan agile efforts?  An agile team's scope is measured in points using relative sizing. We'll have an activity that allows you to practice relative sizing a scope of work and then to use these sizings to complete the initial planning.

What's a user story?  What makes requirements in an agile effort different than those in waterfall?  Writing quality user stories is hard - but good user stories are essential to agile teams.  We'll review the structure of user stories and discuss the characteristics of a well written user story.  We'll also touch upon how agile teams manage requirement changes.
