We will continue as a chapter to monitor local and federal best practices before begin our in-person meetings again. June Meeting Recap “Breaking Communication Barriers with NLP”
Our June Chapter meeting kicked with a fun roundtable of virtual networking and introductions. We use this pre-meeting time to see how everyone is doing and to find out what is going on in our project community! Lots of great information is shared during this period (including hiring information) so do not miss this part of our event!
The main speaker, Greta Binder, kicked off the presentation with the following quote from George Barnard Shaw: “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”
Greta also shared the following statistics that companies lose over $62 million annually in loss of productivity due to errors of omission and that there is a 47% higher return to shareholders when there is effective communication. That definitely emphasizes the importance of effective communication!
She explained NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming and how filters impact how we perceive and take in information. Reprogramming those filters can result in better communication. Greta also shared her personal NLP journey and reviewed tools that can be used such as active listening, congruency, mental rehearsals, and stress reduction tips.
Thanks to Greta for sharing this valuable information with our members and guests! Hopefully, attendees are putting those tools and tips to good use!
