Deadline is 11 PM EST on Feb 17, 2020.
We started the 2020 season off with a great speaker on Monday, January 20. If you attended please do not forget to report your PDU’s.
The topic was how business analysts bring value to project management. Our guest speaker was Laura Paton; MBA, PMP, PMI-PBA, CBAP, and CSM.
Many would consider her a SME in all areas of project management. She brought to us some interesting comparisons between a BA and a PM, and how the agile environment is changing the landscape for a BA and PM.
Did you know that 47% of projects fail due to poor requirements? Why is that? Is it because there was not a BA who did the leg work prior to turning the project over to the project manager? A show of hands proved the point that most attendees do not work for a company where there is an active BA role.
The BA is concerned with the product life cycle where the PM is the project life cycle. However they both a share a common cycle:
The processes in the BA world are very similar to that of the PMP world. There are 6 knowledge areas of BA:
Also, something different at the end of this meeting—instead of the email getting sent out to all attendees we used menti.com to record our thoughts. Way to go to our tech chapter members for the forward thinking!
Do you know or work with a local professional, senior PMP colleague, or community/business leader that you would want to hear give a presentation on project leadership, skills and techniques, or a specific knowledge area within the project management profession?
There are other ways to get involved with the local chapter. We are always looking for ideas and venues for networking events. AND there are always opportunities to volunteer. Not only with the local chapter but within your own community.
If you have attended previous chapter events, remember to claim your PDUs!
